Our Last Day Here

Posted by Darla

This morning we went to the Mount of Olives. What a beautiful view of the city of Jerusalem. One could almost hear Jesus’ words, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem… I would have gathered you as a mother hen….” Pastor again read us scripture there and in the Garden of Gethsemane. The olive trees are over 2,000 years old and it is easy to imagine the disciples falling asleep leaning against the large trunks, while Jesus prayed.

After Pam and Darla took a short camel ride (we’re sure this will end up on the big screen!), we walked back to the city through the Lion gate. It was time for the Muslims to go to worship, so we were swept into a sea of people, however we were not let into the area they were going to. We walked through the old city where most of the shops were closed. Everyone is basically on their own this afternoon. We will meet for dinner, have a time of sharing and then be busy packing to leave.

I forgot to say that we have celebrated two birthdays while here. First Greg’s and last night Al’s. We gathered together and had cake—even had candles—and sang an unbelievably ‘bad’ rendition of Happy Birthday. True to the Setter family tradition!

It has been an unbelievable trip in so many ways. How thankful we are to have Pastor David with us. His knowledge has really helped to bring this land and all that took place here alive for us all.

We will be home tomorrow.
