Al’s Blue Light Special
Posted by Darla
It is early Saturday morning.
Just wanted to respond to a question about what we are eating. Most of our meals are eaten here at BBC. For breakfast we have pita bread, cereal, hard boiled eggs, coffee and OJ. For lunch we have had tuna salad sandwiches, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles and cookies. For supper we have rice that they cook with tiny pieces of pasta in it. Over that you put different things. One night it was lamb meatballs, one night it was pieces of lamb cooked in the pasta and last night it was peas, corn and meat with a gravy. Along with the main meal there is always pita bread. Yesterday we ate at Salim’s and had wonderful gyros.
Have to explain the title of this update.
After dinner last night the team decided to set out looking for ice cream. The US kids who work here went with us. Al and Todd stayed behind to take some pictures of the wall and were to join us at the ice cream parlor. We had a great time eating and returned home to find Al and Todd. Apparently no one told Todd that it was his turn to “watch” Al (he said it was assumed, not decreed), so he let him set out on his own to find the group. After walking for quite some time (he said almost an hour), Al finally gave up and went to the police station. He asked them to direct him to the college and maybe he could take a taxi back. After some discussion, they decided to give him a ride back in the police car with lights (they are blue here) flashing! We all had a good laugh… only Al could get a police escort to where he wants to go!
Today we have another lecture this morning and then we will tour Bethlehem. I will write more tonight.
Blessings, The Israel Team
